CPR #2257 / 1st Aid
[Calendar]
– American Heart Association – Heart Saver Certification which includes
Adult, Child, Infant CPR / 1st Aid and the use of an AED.
Firearm Permit
#9276 [Calendar]–
Exposed – 8 Hours – Classroom; 4 Hours Range
Bureau of Security & Investigative Services Curriculum, includes
classroom instruction in the proper carry and use of firearms while
on duty as a Security Guard.
Concealed Weapon

- CCW – 4 Hours – NRA Curriculum
Power
to Arrest #7000 [Calendar]
– 8 Hours – Required to apply for Guard Licensing
Mandatory prior to guard licensing/standing post. Course will consist
of lecture, discussions, exercises and role-playing in addition to
reading and completing the Department of Consumer Affairs’, Power
to Arrest Training Manual. Pursuant to Business and Professions Code
Section 7583.7(a), the following specific subjects will be included:
Definition of arrest and discussion on the implications to the subject,
the guard, the company and the client.
Lecture and/discussion on escalation and de-escalation techniques
in the use of force, including role playing and/or exercises
Exercises in the use of restraint techniques and their implications
Basic Handcuffing techniques.
Discussion of trespass laws and implications of enforcement, including
rolelplaying in the proper application of trespass laws
Completion of the Power to Arrest Training Manual Test with 100% score
Additional Mandatory Courses:

16 hours of training wthin 30 days of issuance of Guard Licensing.
8 hours must consist of two (2), four (4) hour courses from the mandatory
classes and eight (8) hours of which must consist of elective courses.
Communication
and Its Significance #7001 [Calendar]
– Mandatory Curriculum - 4 Hours
Through lecture, discussion, role-play, teaches appropriate communication
methods with 2-way radios, public address and telephone systems. Course
includes emergency procedures for communication with 9-1-1, as well
as other company and client contacts.
Liability/Legal
Aspects #7002 [Calendar]
– Mandatory Curriculum - 4 Hours
Lecture/discussion advises security guards on their roles according
to BSIS Codes & Regulations. Familiarizes student with personal,
contractor, employer liability, as well as criminal, civil and administrative
procedures.
Observation
& Documentation #7003 [Calendar]
– Mandatory Curriculum - 4 Hours
Includes instruction on asking the right questions to obtain accurate
information, report writing, English as a second language, observation
and Patrol Techniques, Suspect/Suspicious Activity Observation.
Public Relations
(Community & Customer) #7004 [Calendar]
– Mandatory Curriculum - 4 Hours
Topics include Gender & Racial Harassment, Respect (Stereotyping/Attitude),
Verbal Skills/Crisis Intervention, Cultural Diversity, Substance Abuse
& Mental Illness, Ethics & Professionalism (Appearance/Command
Presence), Proper Conduct
Elective Courses
– (CALSAGA course materials)
Eight hours of elective courses must be taken within the first six
(6) months after obtaining Guard Licensing.
